In an upcoming town hall meeting, Owensboro-Daviess County residents will have the
opportunity to take an active role in community development and local governance.
“We the People, a 21st Century Town Meeting,” will be Nov. 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the
Executive Inn Rivermont. As a member of the media, you are invited to witness firsthand
the power of citizen engagement.

During this important community event, residents will be able to:

  • Identify community values and assets to create the area’s ideal 21st Century
    future.
  • Prioritize the challenges to realizing the community vision.
  • Develop and prioritize strategies for an even greater Owensboro-Daviess
    County:
    • A Community Committed to Education and Learning
    • A Region of Opportunity and Appeal
    • A Uniquely Green and Clean Environment
    • A Healthy and Caring Community
    • A Government for the 21st Century
  • Gain a commitment to action from leaders and citizens.

The “We the People” town meeting will be coordinated by AmericaSpeaks, a nonpartisan,
non-profit organization with the mission of providing Americans with a greater
voice in the most important decisions that affect their lives. Most recently,
AmericaSpeaks convened thousands of Californians to deliberate about statewide
healthcare reform.

Media should pre-register for the event by contacting Tracy Marksberry at 926-4339 or
tmarksberry@owensboro.com. Please proceed to the Media table in the Florida room
when you arrive at the Executive Inn. Please review the media guidelines available at

Notes for editors

i. Participants will take part in small group face-to-face discussions with the support of
skilled volunteer table facilitators. The latest technology will be used to identify
community priorities and ensure that all ideas are heard and recorded. Every table will
use a computer to submit ideas and each participant will have a polling keypad to cast
votes. Results will be tallied and displayed on large screens throughout the day long
discussion.

ii. A preliminary report will be available at the end of the day. The document will detail
partial data from the day-long discussion. A final report encompassing all findings will be
available after the event.
