Vision

Citizens from all walks of life will fully participate in community decisions affecting the future of a 21st century community.

Mission

The We the People Leadership Council will champion the implementation of the priorities affirmed at the 21st century town meeting.

Values

Openness and Transparency

  • To follow a public and deliberative decision-making process that is inclusive of all views and, early in the process before possible strategies are determined, is forthcoming with understandable information that is accurate, complete, and candid.

Inclusiveness

  • Value the voice and participation of people from all walks of life and all areas of our community as we work for the common good.

Human Interaction

  • Thoughtful discussion sharing multiple viewpoints and possible options for solutions to problems
  • Creating opportunities for all people to work for the common good.
  • Civility—courtesy toward and respect for one another.

Growth

  • Reliable decision-making and responsible risk-taking based on experience and our assessment of the future.

  • Celebrate community, organizational and individual achievements linked to the people’s vision.

Goals and Strategies of the Leadership Council

  • Promote and facilitate meaningful public participation into ongoing community decisions.
  • Support the five citizen groups that emerged from the Town Meeting through communication, collaboration, training, advocacy, financial and staff support.
  • Recruit, activate and support members and leaders of the five citizen groups.
  • Challenge community leaders to be responsive to the people’s priorities and the activities and recommendations of the citizens groups.
  • Prioritize citizen group needs and help them accomplish their goals/objectives.
  • Encourage leaders to embrace ambitious tasks despite apparent obstacles.
